CAS, Education Bag 2009 Mr. & Ms. Freshmen

More than a thousand freshmen students from the different colleges in the University was welcomed the Wesnecan way during the Freshmen Day 2009 celebration held July 10, 2009 at LNAM Sports Center.

With the theme; “Teach, Train, Develop, Cultivate, Nurture” the newest members of the Wesnecan family filled the gym with fun and laughter as they paraded their colorful get-ups while shouting to the top of their lungs their college yells.

Through the activity, the freshmen were given an opportunity to experience and feel a distinctive Wesnecan culture of camaraderie and imbibed in them the spirit of “I’m Wesnecan, I Can”.

Michael S. Alameda II, of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Sheralyn M. Gonzales, of the College of Education were named Mr. and Miss Freshmen 2009, respectively. Both also bagged the best in talent award as they awe the audience with their graceful moves.

Education freshman, Christian P. Altarejos and Charmagne C. Nojas (CAS) earned first runner-up award and second runner-up were given to John Jacob R. Jimenea, of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and Vanessa B. Mahilum, College of Information and Communication Technology (CICT).

Other special awards like the best in casual attire and best in uniform were awarded to both education students; best in interview was bagged by both CAS students and Altarejos (Education) and Clarisse Manline Joy Candia, of the College of Business and Management were Mr. and Ms. Photogenic.

Earlier, a panel discussion on topics like; Study Skills Enhancement, Personality Development and Love and Sex were imparted to the students by members of the Guidance Services Center (GSC).

An initiation rite was also conducted by the University Student Council.*

WNU Holds Orientation for New Students and Transferees


West Negros University (WNU) welcomes the new students and transferees for SY 2009-2010 with an orientation program which will be held today at the Students’ Activity Center (SAC) at 2PM.

The activity will be spearheaded by the Students Personnel Services (SPS) and the Guidance Services Center (GSC).

It aims to familiarize the newest WESNECAN addition with the school officials and their respective faculty and staff. They will also be made aware of the existing college rules, regulations and policies and the corresponding consequences for their violations.

The event also provides an avenue and opportunity for the new members of the WESNECAN family to get acquainted with their schoolmates and make new friends. A sort of imbibing the unique culture and camaraderie that is distinctive in West Negros University.

Dr. Cleo Grace Hinaut, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs formally welcomes the students to the school.

A video presentation of the various school facilities were also shown for the students to acquaint themselves with including the services offered by the departments.


Policies on Student Behavior and Conduct will be presented by SPS acting director Juben Palermo and guidelines on Student Discipline and Policy on Exemption Pass will be discussed by Office Discipline, Security and Safety Services (ODSSS) director Ernan Encarnado.* (rrm/aipro)

WNU’s Bio Power-Up Allows UP TO 40% in Fuel Savings


Want to save fuel and sponsor a scholar?

West Negros UniversityCollege of Engineering launches a revolutionary product that can generate up to 40% savings in fuel… a relief from the prevailing oil price hike.

WNU’s Bio Power-Up is a green organic fuel additive which can be used for gasoline and diesel fuel. Bio Power-Up is a research product that will help the community aside from saving fuel but mitigate climate change resulting to lesser vehicle emissions to the environment.

The product is available in 50ml bottles for a minimal cost.

Along with the protection of the environment, Bio Power-Up also provides BS Chemical Engineering Scholarship to STUDENTS in the province for school year 2009-2010.

The scholarship is worth P25, 000 each semester. This project will be in partnership with the barangays which CAN also generate funds for them.

WNU-College of Engineering offers the best engineering curricula utilizing computer laboratories in all its design subjects AND with SPSS (FOR STATISTICS AND RESEARCH) and STAAD (Structural Analysis and Design) software INTEGRATED IN THE CURRICULA.

The College also championed in a series of inter-school competitions organized by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) in 2008, Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) in 2008, and Auto-Cad Inter-School Competition in 2009.
